Mental Hospital B

This mental hospital is also built in a quiet, rural environment, although in the outskirts of Stockholm. It was built in 1932-35 and was by then one of the largest in Europe with a capacity of 1600 patients. The air photo was taken c. 1935 (photographer O. Bladh). Today the area is still peaceful but the city has taken over the neighbourhood. As in many other countries mental hospitals nowadays have in large been closed. In this case most of the houses are now occupied by other activities but some are empty. They are still well preserved, the decay has hardly begun. The visit was made in 2005. After that the building has been severly vandalised. In 2012 it was renovated and opened as a home for people with dementia.
